Gloves and lacrosse sticks were strewn across the field and Gonzaga seniors George Christopher and Luke McCaleb were like everyone else, looking for anyone and anything to celebrate with after the top-ranked Eagles beat DeMatha, 14-5, to capture their seventh straight WCAC boys' title.
But when they spotted Coach Casey O'Neill, the embrace lasted a couple seconds longer. Christopher, the team's goalie, had just played an entire game with a separated shoulder. McCaleb, meanwhile, had scored two goals with a torn quadriceps muscle.
